Book Review Of Fitness Kills By Helen Barer

Food writer, or Foodie, as they are known in the trade, Nora Franke is overfed and excited over a recent breakup with her boyfriend a long time. "We need a break," he told her, Nora decides that spending some time away from the bustle of New York is the tonic he needs. His solution is to take a temporary job as a consultant to an exclusive formula and luxurious spa in Baja. Nora is ecstatic, three months in a beautiful place and able to combine his love of food with the increasingly urgent need given the results of too many culinary adventures in New York.

Life in a spa is like living on a boat cruise, time is compressed, most guests are only there for a week. The friendships that develop normally for weeks or months to develop in minutes, unfortunately animosity. Nora finds himself more acceptable to customers that the staff and is soon involved in a loosely connected group of friends who come to the resort each year for a few days of relaxation and reflection.

This group of rich and wealthy, apparently friends of Nora accepts as readily as if they had lived since his birth kindergarten. The seems idyllic for something bad to happen, and Helen Barer is the author of it! Helen is no stranger itself to the world of writing, has a number of cookbooks to his credit, but this is his first foray into the murder mystery genre. The first cracks in the Louis Vuitton luggage is the next day morning when the Alan's body is what appears to be a climbing accident on a nearby mountain.

What is the opinion of reactions Nora different from group members, the pain, indifference, may be something more sinister. In the 50s the exclusive retreat is in force is the first death was known to the ranch, sprained ankles, and a mild heart attack over the effort required record. There above is a second death, that can not be described as an accident . Now Nora is pulled into the web of deceit, what is happening and who is responsible for these deaths?

Nora on track! It has no investigative training, only the stubborn desire to find truth. Of course, this may not be the best recipe for long life! I loved this book, I think it's a very good first effort, small enough at 200 pages a quick read, but long enough to develop the characters as well. I suspect we will see more of Nora Franke in future books by Helen Barer. If you are looking for a fun murder mystery quickly and I can not recommend trying Kills.
